How this background remover works without a server
Most free background removers work by uploading your photo to a company's server, running a model there, and sending the result back. That's an extra copy of your photo sitting on infrastructure you don't control. This tool takes a different approach: the segmentation model downloads once to your browser, and every photo you process after that runs entirely on your own device's hardware. Nothing about the image itself is ever sent anywhere.
What "on-device" actually means here
The first time you use the tool, your browser fetches a small machine learning model — a few megabytes — the same way it would fetch any other script or font. After that one-time download, the model sits in your browser's cache and does the actual segmentation work locally, using your device's GPU where available. Your photo never becomes a network request.
Cleaning up the edges
Automatic segmentation is fast but not always pixel-perfect, especially around hair, fingers, or busy backgrounds. Use the erase brush to remove stray background pixels the model missed, or the restore brush to bring back parts of the subject it cut away by mistake. Zooming in mentally on edges before downloading takes a few seconds and usually improves the final result more than anything else.
Choosing a replacement background
A transparent PNG is the most flexible output — you can drop it onto anything later. If you need a finished image right away, switch to a solid white or custom color background instead, which is the standard requirement for e-commerce product photos and ID-style pictures.

No. Only the segmentation model itself is downloaded from a content delivery network — that's model code, not your image. Your photo stays on your device throughout.
Why didn't it remove the background cleanly?
The model is trained mainly on people and clear foreground subjects. Cluttered backgrounds, low contrast between subject and background, or unusual objects can trip it up. Use the erase and restore brushes to fix the result manually.
What resolution do I get back?
The output matches your original photo's pixel dimensions, so quality isn't reduced during processing.
